Before I even start writing about my amazing weekend, I just want to point out that I really hate Youtube. Because once again, I have a video for you, and Youtube keeps failing on the upload. EPIC FAIL.
The title of this post means “Ways to avoid the sun” in Korean. No, I don’t speak Korean, and I’m not in Korea. But I should have taken Rain’s advice, because avoiding the sun is a good idea sometimes.
Anyways. This weekend. I went to Tokyo. Again. Big surprise, I know right? Tokyo is like a sick addiction that is cheaper than being a drug user or alcoholic. So whatever.
I went this weekend because it was the KittyGuys birthday. Now, the KittyGuys aren’t famous. Yet. But they’re famous enough to me. The KittyGuys were made up from the ensemble dancers from Rock Musical Bleach, which was a ridiculously popular musical a year ago. They did a few shows, but now the musical has run its course. The ensemble dancers worked so well together, they created the KittyGuys, and they do dance performances. They’re mostly free street performances, but they’re now beginning to branch out to stage shows and stuff. They remind me a lot of one of my other favourite groups out here, so I’m all for supporting these guys and watching them as they grow.
Anyways, so I went to Tokyo and met up with Becca and Laura on Saturday. We went to the Outback Steakhouse, which was wonderful. Then we hopped over to Gain. I think I mentioned Gain before. Clothes store, size of a closet, lots of the designers are performers, and the owner has been amazing in helping the KittyGuys. Anyways, we went there and actually ran into two of the guys, Kurihara and Kuma, I believe. We didn’t stick around long though, and left before I could buy an overpriced shirt. YAY SELF CONTROL!
We then mozied on over to Yoyogi Park, where there was a birthday party happening. It was really fun, and there was some Japanese practise and playing frisbee in the dark. It was really fun. We had to leave before the last train back, which was around midnight. Seriously folks, public transit makes sure you either get a good night’s sleep, or you don’t sleep at all. We stayed in a capsule hotel, which was really interesting. I’m thinking I want to try the one in Akihabara next time, because it takes women as well. If anyone comes to visit me, I’m making sure they get to stay in one, because it’s a neat experience. Plus, it’s CHEAP.
Anyways, we had to wake up at what was lovingly called the asscrack of dawn, aka 6 am, to get to the KittyGuys show at 8. I know, 6 isn’t that bad, but you try having to do it after partying in Yoyogi. It SUCKS. The show was so early because the guys had other commitments in the afternoon, and since it was their birthday, they wanted to be sure everyone was there.
The show itself was brilliant. As you can see, the KittyGuys are the guys in pink jump suits. I don’t know why. But they’re absolute sweethearts. I got to meet most of them, and they were all wonderful. The one I’m with in the top photo is Gaku. He was sweet, and kinda reminds me of a puppy that would chase its tail for hours. And then there’s this guy, Kuma. We decided this was an awesome, thoughtful pose. Don’t you agree? The photo below is with Tachibana and Laura. Tachibana is holding a box of cookies brought by Laura, which was omiage (presents from vacation) from Disney World.
Anyways. After the event, we all went to get some food, and then look for the NEXT KittyGuys event. They were having a birthday party with the guys who weren’t in other shows. We managed to get standing seats. It was really fun.
Some time while waiting to get inside, I realized – I was BURNT. I haven’t been this red in a long time, and it still hurts a LOT.
Bah, I’m getting tired, so I’ll be brief:
After the KittyGuys event, me and Lindsay decided that we would go watch Frogs on Screen again in Yokohama. I was sad because we only JUST missed the live talk event. But it was fun none the less, and we were dancing in the back of the theatre along with the movie.
And then I got home, passed out, and have been dealing with sun stroke ever since. I think my teachers think I’m dying, and they’re being all cute and concerned and making sure I eat. Not sure what that’ll do, but whatever. I’m getting better.
And now I need to sleep to make sure I’m not dead tomorrow. I’ve been teaching the first graders this week. 6 year olds are perhaps the cutest thing on earth, and I want to keep one of the girls with me all the time because she’s cute and likes to hug my leg. SO CUTE.
