It has to be said

Today, as I was walking home from work, I was hit with this overwhelming feeling of happiness. Every once in a while, I’ll suddenly realize just how lucky I am. While I keep thinking to myself “I wish I lived in Yokohama” or “I wish I could go to Tokyo more”, I know I’m really lucky to be where I am.

Near Keikyu Kurihama station, which is my station for work, there is this wonderful covered market. The vendors are all local, and do their best to sell locally grown food when they can. So while grocery stores might make me cry when it comes to fresh vegetables, these places are decent prices, considering. I love markets like that, so walking through there today, smelling all the smells with my iPod playing all my favourite songs, I couldn’t help but feel really happy and thankful. :)

Plus, school just continues to make me happy. I run into my students on the way home and they always greet me with a “Rebecca-sensei~~! Hello~~!” and a huge smile. My co-workers are so much fun, and are so supportive with my Japanese. My English coordinator told me that she is very impressed with the way I pronounce things. She was kind enough to not add in the fact that I have a really limited vocabulary. XD

The news is still talking about the attack in Akihabara. The more they find out, the more disturbing it gets. It really is heart breaking, no matter what country it happens in, when you hear about the pasts of these people who snap. We can come up with as many solutions as we want, but in the end, people always slip through the cracks. I don’t know what’s worse – the fact that it takes moments like this to see the flaws in our societies, or realizing that there is really no way of stopping moments like these, because it’s impossible to tell when people are suffering at times. We’re just left to think of all the things we could have done to help them.

I’m sorry, this post started all happy, but then it went sad. Here, have something that makes me really happy every time I hear it: The “I love Commercials” commercial. All they’re saying is “I love commercials”. It doesn’t advertise anything, it’s just cute.
