Best Thing I’ve Packed

As I mentioned in my previous post about packing for Korea, in theory, I shouldn’t need much. My DVDs, my computer, and my clothes.

In theory.

As I’m pushing the limit for my weight restrictions (both my bags are at 49/50 pounds, oh yeah!), I juggled things around to make room for one thing I take for granted.

There is a small jar of Miracle Whip in my suitcase.

“But Rebecca!” you may ask, “Why on earth would you pack food to Korea?”

Why? WHY? BECAUSE HAVE YOU SEEN AN ASIAN IMPORT STORE? Those things are limited, and damn expensive. And do you know how many of the ones in Japan carried Miracle Whip? NONE, THAT’S RIGHT.” I could get my ketchup and kraft dinner (Mac and cheese, for you Yanks) and pasta and all those wonderful things. The peanut butter was crappy and overpriced, but it was there, and there was sometimes Nutella! But not my favourite sandwich spread.

Last year, for Christmas, I bought a jar for myself, as a treat, from an online import shop. And really, it made life better for those few months it lasted. Korea can feel free to impress me with their imports, and if they have Miracle Whip, I’ll be super psyched. But, if not, I am prepared.

(Other foods that have been packed for Korean consumption are juice crystals and Tazo Passion Tea. Once again, just not worth the risk! It’s light enough.)
