Thanks For All The Fish

Thanks for all the fish

The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the ‘Star Spangled Banner’, but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish

I tried reading Hitchhikers Guide To the Galaxy about…. Nearly 20 years ago. I didn’t get it. I remember the beginning very clearly though. One thing that has always stood out to me was the scene with the dolphins.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

I’ve been putting this off for a very long time. Today seems like the perfect day to do it, even though I’m still struggling to find the right words.

As many of you might have noticed, I don’t post on this website as much as I used to. Once upon a time, I wrote often, because I was abroad and the whole purpose of this site was about being abroad. Now – I’ve been back in Canada for three years, and I don’t really see myself returning overseas as a teacher. Of course, I would love to travel, but I’m still struggling to establish myself in a career here in Toronto.

Over the past year, I’ve slowly been trying to establish myself as a social media consultant. First, I started with my professional website, It originally was just my resume, but I’ve been working on building a blog where I write about common questions in social media. Some of the posts include:

Next, I established my new twitter account, @RebeccaBredin where I take part in industry twitter chats and write about social media and Toronto. I’m still using @ABlogAbroad for personal posting, but I’m starting to divide my life into very clear professional versus personal on social media.

So what’s happening?

Good news: This website isn’t going anywhere. My twitter account isn’t going anywhere.

Bad news: I don’t plan on posting on this site much any more.

I might post once in a while. For example, I’d like to write a review of Kim’s Convenience this week, since I went to see the play last week. But my priority is going to be working on the website. I also like to imagine that I’ll be travelling again one day, and this site will be used.

If you’re on the Facebook page, you’ll notice that the name of it is changing from “A Blog Abroad” to just “Rebecca Bredin” because it’s going to cover both websites. I will be sharing my posts from both A Blog Abroad and

So while it feels like goodbye to this site, I’m actually going to be around still. It’s just a lot of restructuring of my time and interests.

Until then, so long and thanks for all the fish.
